Mugwort, Artemisia douglasiana, was the first herb I met and formed a relationship with twenty-five years ago. Each spring as I walk along the banks of the Russian River where it happily grows, there is a day when I spot its silvery green leaves inching their way sunward and joyfully exclaim, “The mugwort is back!” I pluck a leaf and roll it between my fingers, deeply inhaling the scent which is reminiscent of a citrusy sage. A satisfaction settles in as I am reunited with my friend.
My deep adoration for this herb inspired the creation of Mugwort Cream — celebrating the essence of this compelling “weed.”
